God designed sex to be very good but unfortunately people
have twisted it and turned it sinful. Within the
confines of marriage sex is still a wonderful thing.
Unfortunately many people have taken sex outside of marriage
and out of God's purpose for sex.
The church has reacted strongly to sexual sin. On
one hand, sexual sin is no different than any other sin and
God can forgive any sin. On the other hand Paul notes
in 1 Corinthians that sexual immorality is different than
other sins. In 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 Paul writes,
"Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits
are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against
his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of
the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from
God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price.
Therefore honor God with your body."
The Christian church must find a balance in regard to
sexual sin. We must be willing to forgive those who
are repentant of their sin just as we should any other sin.
But we also must acknowledge the seriousness of sexual sin
and not turn a blind eye to the problem and forget it
in hopes of just loving and accepting a person.
