For centuries, the
missionary position was taught by the church as the only
acceptable sexual position. This leads to the question
of the acceptability of other positions.
The Bible does not say anything about sexual positions.
There are no prohibitions on any position in the Bible.
What we do know is that God intended sex to be
pleasurable. Different positions are more pleasurable
for men and women. Likewise, illness, obesity, or
pregnancy may prevent a couple from using certain positions
during sex.
While individual positions won't be discussed the Bible
can be applied to any and all sexual positions. First
and foremost sex is performed in love. This means that
anything that a partner feels uncomfortable with should be
avoided. This applies to anything that is physically
uncomfortable as well as emotionally.
Some sexual acts may be considered by some to be
degrading or humiliating. Sex should not make a person
feel anything less than highly valued and loved.
Likewise, sex should be enjoyable for both parties and not
just one sided.
There are no real guidelines on sexual positions or
sexual acts outside of acting in love. Sex is an
intimate thing between a husband and wife and what they may
feel comfortable with another couple may not simply because
of their physical or emotional makeup. This does not
make one right and another wrong as long as both are done
with love for one another.
