There is the obvious fact that sex is required for
reproduction. The human race would not survive without
sex. It is also a command to be fruitful and multiply.
But sex is about so much more than just reproduction.
God could have caused humans to reproduce in any way but the
way that He chose was sex.
It is no coincidence that sex is enjoyable. We can
consider it God's wedding gift to humanity.
Sex is not discussed often by Christians or churches and
this is unfortunate. It is treated as something that
is dirty but that is not the way that God intended it to be.
God made sex very good. The problem is that humanity
has taken sex and used it in ways that God did not intend.
Because the church has taken a stand against sexual
relationships outside of marriage and outside of the way God
intended, they are seen as killjoys. Some people, even
Christians, have interpreted this to mean that people should
not enjoy sex. Nothing can be further from the truth.
There is no greater physical intimacy than sex. Two
people cannot be closer than during sex. Genesis 2:24
tells us that the two will become one flesh. This is a
vivid picture of sex and portrays the intimacy that is
involved.
When sex is used outside of the way God intended there
are feelings of guilt and frustration. Those who
practice sex within marriage should enjoy it as a gift of
God and as an act of intimacy that cannot be surpassed in
anything else.
