Divorce affects almost every person in the United States
in one way or another. Divorce rates have hovered at
or above 50% for many years which means more than half of
marriages will end in divorce. Almost every family has
a sibling, parent, aunt, or uncle who has been divorced.
Despite the widespread number of divorces, the Christian
church, even just those who consider themselves
conservative, has a wide array of stances on the issue.
Reactions range from shunning divorced people from the
church to accepting it as a fact of life that there isn't
anything wrong it.
There are few issues as difficult or as controversial as
divorce. Even though there are no contradictions in
the Bible, there are times that one writer appears to go
against what another has said. Careful examination is
required to find a clear and consistent message throughout
the Bible.
Because of this, the goal of this site is to be sensitive
to the issue of divorce but to still plainly explain what
the Bible says about both divorce and remarriage.
However, no matter what stance is taken, well intentioned
Christians are going to disagree with our interpretations.
We do not claim to be infallible but only to offer the best
opinion from the Bible that we can. If you disagree,
we implore you to continue to study what the Bible says on
the topic and pray for understanding until you reach a
conclusion that you can support.
